The Dunbar neighbourhood, located in the west of the City of Vancouver, stretches from Fraser River across much of the Peninsula between the mouth of the Fraser River and English Bay.
 
Demographic
 
Although previously dominated primarily by the white wealthy elite, recently, the Dunbar community has become more diverse, with other ethnicities being attracted to what this neighbourhood has to offer. Approximately 19% of the residents who live here are Chinese. The area is also made up mostly of families with children.

Dunbar is a busy thoroughfare with variety of retail stores, restaurants and cafes in the neighbourhood’s shopping district. One popular shopping area is located near the junction of 16th Avenue and Dunbar Street, where you can find specialty stores including Cheapskates, Blight’s Home Hardware and 4Cats Arts Studio, as well as restaurants such as La Notte and Jethro’s Fine Grub. The second district lines the area around the junction of 41st Avenue and Dunbar, home to stores like The Celtic Treasure Chest, selling British imported food and foods, a Save-On-Foods grocery store, and Blaq Sheep Fine Coffee House.
 
Schools
 
An extremely popular area with a growing number of families, Dunbar is home to various elementary schools, including Kitchener Elementary, Southlands Elementary, Queen Elizabeth Elementary, Jules Quesnel Elementary and Carnarvon Elementary. Secondary schools in the area include Lord Byng Secondary and Prince of Wales Secondary.The Dunbar neighborhood is also home to some of Vancouver’s top private schools, including Crofton House and St George’s, which is located near the Pacific Spirit Regional Park.
 
Transportation
 
Despite not being close to any of Vancouver’s SkyTrain routes, regular buses in the neighbourhood connect to all three lines, making Richmond, Vancouver East, Burnaby and New Westminster all easily accessible. Those who choose to travel by bike or foot use the Spirit Trail Greenway, which runs north-south along Camosun Street. Residents who drive have easy access to Vancouver International Airport and downtown central business district, with all conveniences that the City of Vancouver has to offer.
