One of Vancouver's oldest neighbourhoods, Hastings was once thought ofas the area ofdowntown that was primarily industrial. Since shifting its focus towards a commercial area, Hastings isnow home to a dense strip of shops, services, new restaurants and pubs along East Hastings Street andin pockets along Nanaimo Street, Broadway, Boundary Road and Renfrew Street. Now an affordable area with trendy nightlife, many young people are choosing to invest their futures in the community and rightly so.

Location

Located in the northeastern corner of downtown Vancouver, Hastings runs from Main Street to Nanaimo Street along Hastings, venturing south at Clark Drive then along Venables Street, encompassing much of the waterfront at Vancouver Harbour.

Demographic

An ethnically diverse and primarily residential area, Hastings is home to large numbers of Cantonese, Vietnamese and Italian speakers. Many businesses have been in operation for over 40 years old, including Italian delis, grocery shops and a large T&T Asian supermarket, reflecting the shift in immigrant settlement in the neighbourhood. With its close proximity to shops and other amenities, Hastings also attracts large numbers of young professionals.

Residential Housing

Most residences in the Hastings neighbourhood are single family detached homes, with some multi-family buildings. Several older brick buildings are also being renovated into lofts and studio apartments, reaffirming Hastings’ status as a trendy, yet affordable alternative to downtown Vancouver real estate. Many properties also offer impressive views across Burrard Inlet and the mountains. Contact me to find out more about current bench mark pricing in the area.
