Location
 
Quilchena is bordered by Larch and Puget Drive to the west, Marguerite/Cypress Street bordering on Shaughnessy to the east and West 37th anchors the southern border. Surrounding neighbourhoods include Kerrisdale, MacKenzie Heights, Arbutus, Shaughnessy and Cambie.
 
Demographic
 
A large proportion of Quilchena residents are between the ages of 40 to 64 (37.5%), with 22.8% between 20 and 39 and 24.7% aged 19 and under. 54% of residents are married, many of whom have children living at home, while 33% are single. 59% of people have English as their first language, although there is a growing Chinese population in the neighbourhood
 
Residential Housing
 
Quilchena is composed primarily of detached homes, with several low-rise condos and townhouses nearby. Many homes are custom built, with a lot of older homes having been torn out and replaced with new developments in their place. Many of the lots are also over 5000 square feet in size, offering plenty of space for growing families. This mixture of housing appeals to both single families, as well as seniors and young people, attracting a diverse population to Quilchena’s community. Recreation
 
The beautiful Quilchena Park is an anchor of the neighbourhood, featuring a disc golf course, playground, two soccer fields, jogging trail and an off-leash area for dogs. Other than the park, the neighbourhood itself is mainly residential, although there are lots of recreational activities at nearby neighbourhoods like Arbutus and Kerrisdale. Arbutus is home to the Arbutus Club, which offers skating and curling rinks, a dining hall, a swimming pool, and a music studio. The club is also home to several courts for racquetball, squash, and tennis. The Kerrisdale Community Centre, also features an indoor and outdoor pool, play palace and exercise room.
 
Restaurants
 
The main eateries are located in nearby Arbutus and Kerrisdale, since Starbucks is the neighbourhood’s only café. Many restaurants and cafes are located along nearby Arbutus Street, with popular choices including farm-to-fork restaurant, Gramercy Grill, The Boathouse Restaurant and Arbutus Coffee. One of the best areas for dining out in the Kerrisdale neighbourhood can be found along West 41st Avenue and West Boulevard, featuring eateries including Sofra Mediterranean Kitchen, Bufala Pizzeria, La Cuisson Cafe, and The Secret Garden Tea Company, offering the best afternoon tea in Vancouver.


Shopping
 
Quilchena’s main retail hub is the Arbutus Mall, which conveniently includes a Safeway grocery store, BC Liquor and BMO. Arbutus Street also features seafood market, Finest At Sea, anM&M Food Market, as well as Pete’s Meat Butcher Shop and Deli. Other popular stores include women and children’s clothing boutique, Pebble, Celsia Florist, Tisol Pet Nutrition and Supply Store, and Edible Arrangements, which sells clever arrangements and gift baskets made up of gourmet fresh and chocolate-dipped fruit. Anything else you need can be conveniently accessed at nearby Kitsilano or downtown Vancouver.
 
Schools
 
A popular area with families, many schools are easily accessible in the Quilchena neighbourhood. Quilchena Elementary is located in the southern part of the neighbourhood, while Prince of Wales Secondary is in the north of the area, and Point Grey Secondary just outside its southern border. Also nearby are private schools, York House, Vancouver Collegeand Little Flower Academy.


Transportation
 
If you drive, as many Quilchena residents do, Quilchena’s convenient westside location puts it in close proximity to Granville Street, providing easy access to both downtown Vancouver and YVR Airport. East 41st Ave and West King Edward Ave also connect to Knight Street and Highway 1A. If you don’t drive, public transportation is excellent with several bus routes running through the area.
