Located in the vibrant Lynn Valley area of North Vancouver, Westlynn is bounded by Lynn Canyon Park to the east and Grouse Mountain to the north, whilst offering spectacular views of the rest of the North Shore slopes and across to Vancouver.
 
Demographic
 
Home ownership in Westlynn is high, with a split of 87% owners to 13% renters among those living in the area. Although the area is great for all kinds of households, families are the largest group (55%), followed by couples (33%) and singles (12%). The majority of families with children in the area have two children living at home, with a large percentage of young children. The majority of residents are between 30 and 54 years of age (36%).
 
Residential Housing
 
Comprised mainly of detached homes, Westlynn is a delightful neighbourhood, with housing styles ranging from traditional single family homes to more modern condo developments. The majority of the homes were built before the 1980s, making housing in the area fairly new in comparison to some other neighbourhoods in Vancouver. Westlynn is in a great location to enjoy some of the North Shore’s best recreational activities, including hiking, cycling and boating. Nearby Lynn Canyon Park forms Westlynn’s eastern boundary, and is home to the popular Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge and Ecology Centre. Hiking enthusiasts will enjoy the 140 km of hiking and walking trails that run through the Park, where residents experience nature at its finest. For those who enjoy indoor activities, the Karen Magnussen Recreation Centre is home to a wave pool, whirlpool and steam room, ice arena and weight room, to name a few features. The Lynn Valley Main Library is another attraction, featuring a children’s area on the first floor with cozy window seating, and a teen area on the second floor.
 
Restaurants
 
An extremely popular neighbourhood for families, nearby Lynn Valley offers Westlynn residents plenty of family friendly dining options. Popular choices include the Black Bear Neighbourhood Pub, a laid-back cabin with high ceilings that serves cold pints, brunch and Canadian fare with a twist, popular chain, Browns Socialhouse and Chinese restaurant, the Wonderful Szechuan Restaurant. Convenience food comes in the form of places including Valley Sushi, Freshslice Pizza, Big Bite Donair and Quiznos.
 
Shopping
 
Lynn Valley Centre and Lynn Valley Village provide a range of shops and services just a few minutes from Westlynn, and with outlets including two major grocery stores, a BC Liquor Store, bakeries, meat market and garden centre, residents are spoilt for choice. The Lynn Valley Village is a popular patio meeting place for coffee, particularly in the summer, where it becomes home to a farmers market and outdoor summer concert series. A drive down Mountain Highway or Lonsdale Avenue brings residents to Park & Tilford Shopping Centre, featuring a Save-On-Foods and Cineplex Theatre, as well as the commercial areas of Lower Lonsdale and Marine Drive to the west.
 
Schools
 
The closest school to Westlynn is Ross Road Elementary, located within walking distance of most homes, and which features a French Immersion Program. Nearby neighbourhood Lynn Valley also has the highest number of schools of any community in the area, home to Lynn Valley Elementary, Upper Lynn Elementary, Fromme Road Elementary, and Argyle Senior Secondary. The Cousteau Ecole Francaise Internationale is a private french school in Lynn Valley.
 
Transportation
 
Although many amenities in Westlynn are accessible via foot or a short drive or bus journey, if you need to head over to downtown Vancouver, easy access to the Upper Levels Highway via Mountain Highway makes this a short journey. A good TransLink bus service runs in the neighbourhood, and a community shuttle bus also runs from the Lynn Valley Centre and Phibbs Exchange via Lynn Canyon Park.
