Location
 
The Tempe neighbourhood is conveniently located just off of the major commercial district of Lonsdale Ave and can be found just north of Boulevard, east of Upper Lonsdale, west of Westlynn and south of Princess Park.
 
Demographic 
 
Many Tempe residents are homeowners (86%), with just 14% of people renting in the area. A popular area with families, most homes consist of between four and five people, many of which have children living at home. The area is also popular with individuals and families wanting to be close to the area’s commercial district and other amenities. The average age of residents is 40, with approximately 37% of the population over 50, 26% between 30 and 49 and 23% under 19.
 
Residential Housing
 
The homes in Tempe are generally located between Upper Lonsdale and Lynn Valley offering it residents close proximity to all the amenities of both neighbourhoods, with most of the streets in this neighbourhood being flat and child friendly. The homes are generally detached, with many having been build in the mid to late 1980s, Many are are large and comprised of either two or three levels with between 2,500-5,000 square feet. Recreation
 
Being centrally located, Tempe is in a great location to enjoy many of the community’s recreational facilities. Nearby Lynn Canyon Park forms Westlynn’s eastern boundary, and is home to the popular Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge and Ecology Centre. Hiking enthusiasts will enjoy the 140 km of hiking and walking trails that run through the Park, where residents experience nature at its finest. Other nearby parks include Delbrook Park, Carisbrooke Park, Rockland Park and Princess Park, many of which are home to outdoor facilities like tennis courts, dog-walking trails and playgrounds. just three of the family-friendly green spaces in the area home to playgrounds for children as well. If you prefer indoor activities, both the John Braithwaite Community Centre and the Karen Magnussen Recreation Centre can be found nearby.
 
Restaurants
 
Lonsdale Avenue is the main area for dining out for Tempe residents, offering a wide variety of great neighbourhood restaurants, including Queens Cross Pub, a sports bar, pub and liquor store with live music and great food, Indian Fusion, serving authentic Indian cuisine, and Browns Socialhouse, serving pub fare such as burgers and pizza, as well as offering a delicious weekend brunch. If you’re looking for a spot to grab coffee or catch up with friends, Brazza Gelato and Coffee, JJ Bean and Beans on Lonsdale are all worth noting. Nearby Lynn Valley is also home to spots including local favourite, the Black Bear Neighbourhood Pub, a laid-back cabin with high ceilings that serves cold pints, brunch & Canadian fare with a twist.
 
Shopping
 
As with restaurants, Lonsdale Avenue is the area’s main shopping district, home to a number of local speciality stores including Blue Sky Clothing Company, North Shore Girl, On Top Bike Shop, and The Boardroom. The nearby Lonsdale Quay Market Centre is also home to a fresh food market, specialty shops, a kids’ play area, and a hotel and spa. A drive down Lonsdale Avenue brings residents to Park & Tilford Shopping Centre, featuring a Save-On-Foods and Cineplex Theatre, as well as the commercial areas of Lower Lonsdale and Marine Drive to the west. Lynn Valley Centre and Lynn Valley Village also provide a range of shops and services a short distance from the Tempe neighbourhood.
 
Schools
 
A popular area with families, the Tempe neighbourhood is home to a variety of elementary and secondary schools. Boundary Elementary School is directly inside the community only minutes away from most of the homes, while the Vancouver Waldorf School and Joyful Beginnings Family Centre are nearby. Just south of Greenwood Park are two more schools, Queensbury Elementary and Sutherland High School while Carisbrooke Elementary and Argyle Secondary School are just to the north in Princess Park.
 
Transportation
 
With the Trans-Canada Highway cutting through the area, Tempe residents have easy access to Vancouver. Several buses also serve the area, and there are plenty of trails pedestrian routes and bike lanes for walking and biking.
