Location
Located to the southeast of downtown Vancouver, the boundaries of Knight are E 22nd Avenue to the north, W 49th Avenue to the south, Windsor Street to the west, and Argyle Street to the east. One of the main streets of Vancouver, Knight Street bisects the neighbourhood right down the middle. Knight is neighboured by the communities of South Vancouver and Fraserview on the southend, Victoria and Killarney on the east end, Fraser on the west end and Mount Pleasant on the north end.
Demographic
The Knight neighbourhood has traditionally been home to a large population of successful, hard-working and multi-cultural people. More recently, it has become an ideal location for young professionals and families with children, for its close proximity to schools, shops and other amenities.
Residential Housing
Knight offers a mixture of single-family and multi-unit dwellings for its residents, with many having been built between 1940 and 1980. These dwellings mix in well with the new suburban townhomes and mid-rise condo developments that continue to be built in the neighbourhood. Recreation
Home to some of the prettiest parks in the Lower Mainland, including Kensington Park, Memorial South Park, Clark Park and Kingcrest Park, Knight is the ideal neighbourhood for outdoor lovers and those wanting to live an active lifestyle. The Kensington Community Centre, located in Kensington Park, features a fitness centre, pottery studios, a gym, dance studios, and a swimming pool. Memorial South Park, located in Fraser, has multipurpose sports facilities and fields, while Clark Park is just north on East 14th Avenue, and features basketball courts, soccer fields, tennis courts and a baseball diamond. Kingcrest features an off-leash dog area, picnic area, basketball courts, playgrounds and an ultimate-frisbee playing field.
Restaurants
For restaurants there are two major areas in Knight to go to, both located at the sections of Knight that intersect with King Edward Avenue in the north and E 41st Avenue in the south. Nearby eateries include Sri Lankan restaurant, J.R Taste of Ceylon and popular chain, White Spot. Knight also features a number of small, high-quality ethnic restaurants offering great food at reasonable prices, including Ashiana Tandoor, serving authentic Indian cuisine, House of Dosas and Po King.
Shopping
Knight has numerous shops throughout the neighbourhood, with large grocery chain stores such as Save On Foods, banks such as CIBC, and convenience stores like Dollar Tree all within close proximity. Other popular stores include Lily’s Florist and Gifts, Lang Van Video and Book Store and Angel Perfume and Cosmetics.
Schools
The Knight neighbourhood is home to the city’s best known elementary school, Charles Dickens, with many families moving close to the area so that their children can attend this school. Other elementary schools in the area include McBride Elementary, Sir Sandford Fleming Elementary and Tyee Elementary along with Dickens Annex, Lord Selkirk Annex and Tecumseh Annex are directly around the Knight area. St. Joseph’s School is the area’s closest secondary school, while John Oliver Secondary, Gladstone Secondary and David Thompson Secondary are all easily accessible.
Transportation
There are many transportation options for Knight residents, with Knight Street offering easy access to the North Shore and beyond. If you don’t drive, the Canada Line and Skytrain both miss this area of town, but there are regular buses running to downtown and elsewhere, and many amenities are accessible via foot.
