Location
Renfrew Heights lies on the eastern side of Vancouver. The neighbourhood’s official boundaries are Grandview Highway to the north, 29th Avenue to the south, Nanaimo Street to the west, and Boundary Road to the east.
Demographic
The residential area of Renfrew Heights was recently estimated to have an adult population of almost 15,000 with almost 5,000 families in the area. Around 50% of the people living in the community are of Chinese descent. The community is also popular with working class families who need a nice area of Vancouver to raise a family, but still want to be close to all the amenities downtown Vancouver has to offer.
Residential Housing
The Renfrew Heights area is made up of a mixture of smaller detached homes and larger multi-story homes. Depending on which part of the community you’re located, you may have some great mountain views from your upper level windows and patios. Generally, the higher the price gets, the larger the home and more renovated it becomes. Many homes in Renfrew Heights have been built in the last few years so are generally large enough to take advantage of the full size lots. If you are a lover of the outdoors, Renfrew is a neighbourhood known for its great parks and green spaces. Renfrew Ravine Park runs through part of Still Creek and is home to several community art projects, as well as native plant restoration gardens along the park’s east side. Nearby Renfrew Park is also home to many recreational opportunities, where you can play softball, tennis, or stroll along the winding paths along the Creek. Renfrew Park also boasts a library and community centre, with playgrounds and sports fields for those who enjoy leading an active lifestyle.
Restaurants and Shopping
The dining and shopping areas in the Renfrew Heights tends to be clustered around East Hastings Street to the north, and East Broadway to the south. Generally, the area offers fast-food or fast-casual eateries, including Fortune City Seafood, Pizza Hut and McDonalds, as well as coffee shops like Starbucks. There are also several grocery and convenience stores in the area, including Donald’s Market, 7-Eleven, London Drugs, T & T Supermarket and 1st Avenue Liquor Store. On Grandview Highway, you can also find Real Canadian Superstore, Walmart, Canadian Tire, Staples and popular chain restaurant, Boston Pizza.
Schools
A great place for families, there are many schools accessible to students living in the area. Lord Beaconsfield Elementary, Nootka Elementary and Renfrew Elementary are the closest schools, with Sir Matthew Begbie Elementary, Chief Maquinna Elementary, Thunderbird Elementary, Vancouver Technical Secondary and Notre Dame Regional Secondary School also nearby.
Transportation
Renfrew Heights offers easy access to Burnaby and Highway 1 for if you drive, as many residents do. The neighbourhood is conveniently located nearby to two Skytrain stations, Renfrew and Rupert along the Grandview Hwy. There are also frequent buses running in the area, in addition to many amenities being accessible by foot.
