Location
Cedardale is located at the easternmost edge of West Vancouver, near exit 13 of Highway One. Nearby neighbourhoods include Park Royal, Capilano, British Properties (The Properties), and Chartwell.
Demographic
The Cedardale area is great for all kinds of households, but individuals and families make up the majority (36% each), while couples make up 28%. Families with children in the area tend to have one child at home, with a large percentage of young children. Home ownership in Cedardale is high, with a split of 77% owners to 23% renters among those living in the area. A large proportion of residents are retired, with 32% over the age of 65, although the area is attractive to younger crowds also.
Residential Housing
In terms of housing types, Cedardale is an extremely varied neighbourhood, with each home in the neighbourhood offering something unique. Single-family detached homes are the most common, with some being well-kept character homes and some contemporary new homes. A large proportion of the houses were built before 1980. If you love being sporty in the outdoors, Cedardale is conveniently located just across the highway from Hugo Ray Park, which is home to the West Vancouver Cricket Club and occasionally by the West Vancouver Field Hockey Club and is a great place to lead an active lifestyle and even join a sports team if you fancy. Cedardale is also situated a short distance from the Capilano Suspension Bridge, one of the Lower Mainland’s top attractions.
Restaurants
Cedardale residents can find the Park Royal Shopping Centre about a five minute drive south, which is home to a variety of restaurants. Popular choices include Italian home-cooking hangout, Trattoria, Fortune Wok, serving authentic Chinese cuisine, as well as popular chains Nando’s and Five Guys. Park Royal South’s neighbour, The Village, offers additional eateries, including Cactus Club Cafe, Milestones and The Village Taphouse.
Shopping
Park Royal Shopping Centre is also home to over 275 shops, including international brands like Home Depot, Sport Chek, and Future Shop, among other stores. In late 2004, The Village was opened as an expansion of Park Royal South, and boasts Vancouver’s first Salomon store, the first Pinkberry frozen yoghurt shop in Canada, and the best Whole Foods Market in North America.
Schools
Cedardale is an attractive neighbourhood to families for many reasons, one being that it is within walking distance of two renowned elementary schools, St. Anthony’s School, a local Catholic school serving K-7 students, and Ecole Cedardale, a French immersion school that also offers IB programs. Other nearby schools include Capilano Elementary and Carson Graham Secondary School.
Transportation
Approximately 40% of residents drive, since the neighbourhood’s close proximity to Highway One makes it extremely easy for residents to get around. The area is also well served by public transit, making it easy for those who take the bus to travel to surrounding neighbourhoods and to the downtown core. Nearby community parks are also home to various walking trails.
