Home ownership in Chartwell is high, with a split of 90% owners to 10% renters among those living in the area. The neighbourhood is great for all kinds of households, but families are the largest group (65%), with couples accounting for 26% individuals for 9% of the Chartwell population. Families with children in the area tend to have one child at home, with a large percentage of young children. The majority of residents are 30-54 (32%), with 19% over 65 and 15% between 55 and 64.

Chartwell is just a short drive from West Vancouver’s biggest shopping hub, Park Royal Shopping Centre, which boasts a variety of retailers, restaurants, and grocery stores. Here you can find the likes of home furnishings stores such as Anthropologie and Home Depot, to fashion and shoe stores, like Banana Republic, Roots and Vans. In late 2004, The Village was opened as an expansion of Park Royal South, and boasts Vancouver’s first Salomon store, the first Pinkberry frozen yoghurt shop in Canada, and the best Whole Foods Market in North America, among other stores.
 
Schools
 
A popular neighbourhood with families, Chartwell is home to various educational establishments, with elementary schools including Chartwell Elementary, Ridgeview Elementary, Ecole Pauline Johnson Elementary and Hollyburn Elementary, and secondary schools including Sentinel Secondary and West Vancouver Secondary. Chartwell Preschool is also located a short distance away.
 
Transportation
 
The majority of Chartwell residents drive, since almost all errands require a car, although the area is also well-served by public transit, so if you need to take the bus, you can get to where you’re going quickly and easily.
