Arbutus is located in the west side of Vancouver, directly south of Kitsilano. It is bordered by 16th Avenue in the north, 41st Avenue in the south, Mackenzie Street in the west, and East Boulevard in the east. Other surrounding Vancouver neighborhoods include Dunbar, Shaughnessy, MacKenzie Heights and Quilchena.
Demographic
The Arbutus neighbourhood is made up of a diverse group of people with varying interests that attract them to this part of Vancouver. The neighbourhood is popular with working professionals, many of whom are employed at UBCnearby, making it generally an older and more affluent demographic than other areas that are more affordable to students and recent graduates. Many restaurants and cafes are located along nearby Arbutus Street, with popular choices including farm-to-fork restaurant, Gramercy Grill, The Boathouse Restaurant and Arbutus Coffee. Other popular stores include women and children's clothing boutique, Pebble , Celsia Florist, Tisol Pet Nutrition and Supply Store , and Edible Arrangements , which sells clever arrangements and gift baskets made up of gourmet fresh and chocolate-dipped fruit. Anything else you need can be conveniently accessed at nearby Kitsilano or downtown Vancouver.
Schools
Arbutus is a popular neighbourhood with families, not only because of its safe streets, but because of its great schools. Both Carnarvon Elementary School and Trafalgar Elementary School are located in Arbutus, and accept children from kindergarten age through to grade 7, giving parents options for where they want to send their children. Prince of Wales Secondary School is located in the neighbourhood, and of course, UBC is located nearby too offering higher education options.
Transportation
Arbutus is the 14th most walkable neighbourhood in Vancouver with a walk score of 70, meaning most errands can be accomplished by foot. For errands not easily accessible by foot, Arbutus also has good public transportation, connecting residents to nearby neighbourhoods including Kitsilano, Shaughnessy and Kerrisdale. The Arbutus Greenway, a north-south transportation corridor that will connect people, parks and communities, from False Creek to the Fraser River, is also currently in the initial stages of planning.
