Location
 
Renfrew is a large neighbourhood that lies on the eastern side of Vancouver, just south of Hastings-East. Renfrew’s official boundaries are Hastings Street to the north, Grandview Highway to the south, Nanaimo Street to the west, and Boundary Road to the east.
 
Demographic
 
A neighbourhood filled with affordable single-family homes and townhouses, Renfrew attracts lots of first time buyers, including couples and new families. A diverse community, over 50 per cent of residents speak English as a second language, with around 50 per cent of that number identifying Chinese as their mother tongue. At the time of the 2011 census, the median age of this community was 39 years old.
 
Residential Housing
 
Properties in Renfrew are scattered throughout the neighbourhood, with clusters around Renfrew Skytrain station. Many single-family houses are popular with new buyers and developers, since many offer basement suites, most of which have separate entrances from the front of the house and can be easily rented out. Recreation
 
One of the biggest perks of living in Renfrew is its close proximity to the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE), located at Hastings Park, offering a variety of shows, exhibits, sporting events, amusement rides and concerts. Hastings Community Centre, which is located across from the PNE, offers activities and programs for all ages, including a gymnasium, computer lab, games room, fitness centre, and racquetball court. Outside, there is a tennis court, a playground, and water park. Other recreational activities in the area include the large Rupert Park, featuring a pitch and putt golf course, and the Renfrew Park Community Centre, with a library, playgrounds and sports fields for those who enjoy leading an active lifestyle.
 
Restaurants and Shopping
 
Most of the restaurants and shops in Renfrew are clustered around the same areas. To the north is East Hastings Street, home to a Donald’s Market grocery store, as well as various convenience stores 7-Eleven, London Drugs and Dollar Tree, and to the south is East Broadway, which has most of the area’s businesses. East 1st Avenue is home to shops, services and restaurants, including T & T Supermarket, Fortune City Seafood, RBC Royal Bank and 1st Avenue Liquor Store.
 
Schools
 
One of the best areas in Vancouver for schools, many families move to Renfrew specifically for the education. Elementary schools in Renfrew include Sir Matthew Begbie Elementary, Chief Maquinna Elementary, Dr. AR Lord Elementary and Thunderbird Elementary, while most older students attend either Vancouver Technical Secondary or Notre Dame Regional Secondary School.
 
Transportation
 
As well as offering easy access to Burnaby and Highway 1 for drivers, Renfrew is conveniently located nearby to two Skytrain stations, Renfrew and Rupert along the Grandview Hwy. There are also frequent buses running in the area, in addition to many amenities being accessible by foot.
