Located north of the Fraser River, South Vancouver is bordered by E 49th to the north, the Fraser River to the south, Ontario St to the west and Knight St to the East.
 
Demographic
 
A rather diverse neighbourhood, South Vancouver has an immigrant population of over 60%, having been established originally as a lower-income, working class community when a group made up predominantly of immigrants settled there. As a result, South Granville is full of restaurants and shopping districts that reflect the variety of cultures who reside here.
 
Residential Housing
 
The South Vancouver neighbourhood is largely made up of single family homes, with a few low-rise apartments and new condo developments also in the area. Many homes feature small backyards, with several having been built in the 1970s and 80s. Some lucky residents can also enjoy magnificent mountain views from their balconies and patios. Recreation
 
The Sunset Community Centre is one of South Vancouver’s recreational facilities, and features a fitness centre, outdoor pool, gym, youth centre and pre-school. Sunset Park with also soon be upgraded with new pathways, a playground, skateboarding and outdoor basketball facility. Many other popular stores and eateries are found along Fraser Street at 49th Avenue, with the area being home to banks, pharmacies and fresh vegetable markets. A short drive will also take you to Marine Drive, home to larger stores like Best Buy, Canadian Tire and grocery store, Real Canadian Superstore.
 
Schools
 
The South Vancouver neighbourhood is home to a variety of elementary and secondary schools, making the area extremely desirable to families. The elementary schools nearby include John Henderson Elementary and Annex, Walter Moberly Elementary and Pierre Elliott Trudeau Elementary School. High schools close to the South Vancouver area include David Thompson Secondary on 55th Avenue and John Oliver Secondary on 41st Avenue. Langara College is also just a short journey away.
 
Transportation
 
If you own a car, as many South Vancouver residents do, all the amenities you need to access are just minutes away, including Vancouver International Airport, a short drive along Marine Drive, Richmond, and the Highway 99 which takes you to the US border. The South Vancouver neighbourhood also provides its residents with quick access via Translink bus services. Of course, many amenities are also accessible by walking.
