Explore False Creek

Step inside one of Vancouver’s most desirable neighbourhoods and immerse yourself in everything False Creek has to offer...Formerly the industrial heart of Vancouver and once home to sawmills, shipbuilding and rail yards, part of False Creek’s charm is the rich history that’s still visible today. The Granville Island Grain Silos and The Salt Building just two examples of the landmarks that stand strong, amidst the new glass high-rises as a testimony to its past. Now a thriving community in its own right, False Creek offers a selection of luxury real estate overlooking the water, steps away from green space, craft breweries, restaurants, shops, dog parks and cafes.

Location

False Creek South is defined by the area that runs East of Burrard Street, starting from the water’s edge up to 2nd Avenue, and out to Ontario Street, just West of Main Street. This region became home to Vancouver’s Winter Olympic Games in 2010, attracting thousands of visitors from around the world and bringing the former rundown neighbourhood to life once more. It has since been known as ‘Olympic Village’ and is now a leading model of sustainable development, featuring efficient energy solutions, high-performance green buildings, and for the surrounding areas not accessible by foot, easy transit access.

Demographic

False Creek’s picturesque waterfront, world-class restaurants and flourishing artisan scene are just some of the reasons why locals choose to put roots down here. Its proximity to the downtown core and waterfront location means the area tends to attract a large number of active, young professionals and new families, looking for a balance between work and play. In general, the average benchmark for False Creek properties tends to be between $500,000 and 1 million.

Residential Housing

With recreation, restaurants and retail just a stone’s throw away, False Creek is quickly becoming a popular location for developers. Some of the projects currently underway include Avenue One, Lido and The Creek. Developers have intentionally incorporated green space and sustainable building practices to be sensitive to the existing eco-system and to increase the area’s livability factor.

Recreation

Walking, running or cycling around the seawall, it’s hard to imagine the industrial lands that once dominated False Creek’s landscape. Walking distance from nearby attractions such as Granville Island and its Public Market, expansive parks, and of course, plenty of access to water, there’s no doubt that False Creek is now one of Vancouver’s most sought after areas. Whether you’re watching an event at BC PlaceorRogers Arena, exploring Science World, or taking in its spectacular mountain views, you won’t need to travel very far to do so. This waterfront community is one of the most popular boating areas in Vancouver, and shares its waters with luxurious yachts, floating homes and several paddling clubs and boat rental facilities, where you can rent kayaks, canoes and paddleboards year-round. The Creek has also been the venue for the popular Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival since 1986. If you’re looking for things to do with your evenings, False Creek Community Centre runs events each week for families, couples and singles, as well as fitness and health classes, music lessons, photography classes and much more. If you’re into live theatre and music, The Arts Club Theatre Company regularly host vibrant and entertaining performances at the popular Granville Island Stage.

Restaurants

Convenience is key when looking for a neighbourhood to call home, and with False Creek being such a central location, restaurants are always easily accessible. Take your pick of fast-food, fast-casual, farm-fresh, or fine dining, with a variety of spots across the region. Because of its location, False Creek is home to some of Vancouver’s best-rated patios, including Tap & Barreland The Flying Pig in Olympic Village. Alternatively, beer enthusiasts can check out nearby brew pubs, Craft Beer Market and Steel Toad Brewery. If you’re looking for a place to dine out around Granville Island, Dockside Restaurant and The Sandbar offer some of the freshest seafood Vancouver has to offer.

Shopping

Shopping is a huge part of False Creek’s appeal, which offers some of Vancouver’s more eclectic offerings. Granville Island is one of the most popular shopping districts on its doorstep, where you can find everything from fresh fruit and veg, to handcrafted gifts and boutique jewellery. Granville Island is the centre of Vancouver’s design district and has to some of the best home decor stores in the city. False Creek Village is home to popular grocery stores like Urban Fare, and convenience stores such as Subway and London Drugs, which saves the need to travel out of your way. Of course, if you do fancy a trip to downtown Vancouver, you are in a great location to do so.

Schools

False Creek is home to a number of schools, from pre-school and elementary, to senior secondary and higher-education. False Creek Elementary, Henry Hudson Elementary, Tennyson Elementary and St. John’s International are just a few located in the area. Post-secondary schools such as Pacific Coast Community College and Canada Royal Northville College which offer continuing education classes are just a short journey away, and the highly acclaimed Emily Carr University of Art and Design is located on Granville Island.

Transportation

False Creek is crossed by the Granville, Cambie, and the Burrard Street bridges, and to its advantage, most of the neighbourhood is accessible by foot. Alternatively, you can ride the Skytrain via Canada Line between Olympic Village Station on the South Shore and Yaletown-Roundhouse Station to the North. Aquabus and False Creek Ferries also operate scheduled services every day to and from multiple points along the Creek, so you can get from False Creek South to False Creek North in just minutes. If you don’t own a car, but like to drive, take full advantage of Vancouver’s ‘car share’ services, including Car2Go and Evo, which are available in False Creek.
