Explore Kerrisdale

A tight-knit neighbourhood in Vancouver, Kerrisdale is the perfect place for someone looking for amenities on their doorstep. One of the only neighbourhoods where you can literally walk to everything you need, the area is filled with schools, restaurants, shops and parks, and what’s more, residents have stunning views of the North Shore and Vancouver Island.

History

Getting its name from the old rail station at West 41st Avenue and West Boulevard, Kerrisdale was considered to be the “last stop” before leaving the Vancouver municipality. With the CPR’s Vancouver-Lulu Island Railway tracks still running through the neighbourhood, Kerrisdale’s history as gateway between the city and fish canneries on Lulu Island is still visible.

Location

A friendly community on Vancouver’s west side, not to be confused with West Vancouver, the boundaries of Kerrisdale are 37th Avenue to the north, 49th Avenue to the south, Blenheim to the west, and Cypress to the east. Nearby neighborhoods include Arbutus-Ridge, Shaughnessy, Dunbar-Southlands, Marpole, Oakridge, Kitsilano and South Cambie.

Demographic

An increasingly popular area due to its close proximity to schools, shops, restaurants and other amenities, Kerrisdale is comprised mainly of residents between 40 and 64 years old. Having said that, the area is also becoming more popular with young couples and families looking for a friendly neighbourhood to raise children. 55% of residents have English as their first language, and there is also quite a high Chinese population in the area (31%).

Kerrisdale is made up of a mixture of heritage homes and new developments. Heritage homes are typically single-family detached homes and are characterized by stone walls and tree lined streets, connected to the newer developments in the neighbourhood via pathways, parks and various trails.
