A downtown peninsula, the West End neighbourhood is bordered by Stanley Park, Yaletown, Coal Harbour, and the Downtown core. The West End includes Davie Village – traditionally a hub for the city’s gay community – and Denman Street.
 
Demographic
 
Historically the neighbourhood was the first in Vancouver to be populated by the rich and powerful, it later became a popular area for middle-class families, with new arrivals from the eastern provinces and a large population of German immigrants. The current population is fairly diverse, home to Canadians from various provinces, as well as immigrants.
 
Residential Housing

Recreation
 
A nature lover’s dream, the West End neighbourhood is home to some of the best loved parks in the Lower Mainland, including Stanley Park, a historical site with a 27km network of forest trails, as well as a seawall perfect for biking, and various sporting facilities. Stanley Park is also home to the Vancouver Aquarium, the largest aquarium in Canada. Other popular attractions in the West End neighbourhood include the park in English Bay, and of course the beautiful English Bay beach, where you can play volleyball in the summer or simply relax on the sand and enjoy the area’s stunning sunsets.

The West End is one of the best areas for dining out in Vancouver, with eateries lining Davie Village, Denman Street, Robson Street and Alberni Street. Popular cafes include Beach Bay Cafe on Denman Street, offering outside seating with great views of English Bay and Mexican inspired coffee shop, Molli Cafe.

The West End is home to major shopping district, Robson Street, featuring popular stores such asMAC Cosmetics, Lululemon, L’occitane, Roots and J Crew. If you’re looking for a spot to do your grocery shopping, nearby spots include IGA Marketplace on Robson Street, Urban Fare, with locations on Davie Street and Alberni Street, as well as food markets such as Earth Marketand Davie Independent Grocer.
 
Schools
 
Students living in the West End neighbourhood have easy access to a variety of schools in the area, with nearby elementary schools including Lord Roberts Elementary, Lord Roberts Annexand Lions Gate Montessori, and secondary schools in the area including Pattison High Schooland King George Secondary School.
 
Transportation
 
One of the most pedestrian-friendly neighbourhoods in Vancouver, the West End features a network of one-way streets that prevent lots of traffic running through the area. For drivers, the area is easily accessible via Robson Street, but if you can avoid driving it may be faster to walk. Five bus routes also serve the area, connecting the West End to the downtown core and the North Shore.
